Awarding of Diploma in General Surgery

Dr. Adrian Yu:

A Certificate of Completion of the General Surgery Residency Training Program is the conventional certificate issued to graduates of such a program, not only in Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center but also in other hospitals throughout the Philippines.

The Department of Surgery of Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center will issue Diploma in General Surgery rather than the Certificate of Completion to its graduates for the following reason:

The general surgery curriculum of the Department of Surgery of Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center is so well-structured, wholistic, and intensive spanning 5 years of residency training that its graduates deserve a more prestigious award than a certificate of completion.

The graduates deserve a Diploma in General Surgery.

The Department of Surgery started issuing Diploma rather than Certificate of Completion last year, 2002.

Before I call on the graduates to come onstage to receive their award, I will first read the content of the award:

The Department of Surgery of the Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center awards this Diploma in General Surgery to (name of graduate) who has satisfactorily completed the General Surgery Residency Training Program from January1, 1998 to December 31, 2003.
